Facebook Begins Rolling Out Question and Answer Service

Facebook has announced that it has begun rolling out its new Question and Answer service where users can post a question and get knowledge from the more than 500 million people on Facebook. In the redesigned publisher box, there will be a new option to "Ask Question". After you type in your question, you have another option of adding a poll or a photo. Facebook explains that on top of asking broad questions about -- well, anything -- you can ask questions about friends using the publisher on their profile, similar to the way you would write on their wall.

People will be able to answer your questions and the questions of others through the Questions application. You can tag a question with a particular category and then it will appear to those with interests in that category. Plus, you can follow a specific question to receive a notification when new answers are posted. If you don't know the answer to a question, but you think a friend might, you can use the Ask a Friend feature.

If you have not yet received Facebook Questions just yet, you will soon. It's currently in beta and available to a select number of users, but Facebook is "aiming to bring this product to all of you as quickly as [they] can."

Clearly, Facebook has thought long and hard about really giving a full-on Q&A experience with some unique features thanks to the benefit of also being a social network. Could this be a worthy competitor to Yahoo! Answers and Answers.com?
