Google Instant Comes to iPhone and Android, Barely Worth It
Google has announced today that they are taking Google Instant, their search feature that allows search results to appear in real time as you type your query, to mobile -- specifically iPhone and Android devices. Just go to google.com on your mobile device, click "Turn on" and start typing!
This is what Google Instant should have been. Google Instant on a computer doesn't save me very much time at all because I've found that I type faster than it can pull up results, so overall I probably save a second of time just because I don't have to actually click the "search" button anymore. Mobile is a whole different ball game. It's a lot slower than on desktops and laptops, so this should be a huge improvement.
The only problem is I don't know a single person that ever goes to google.com on their mobile device. They just use the built in search, which does not have the Instant capabilities yet. Personally, I either use Google in Safari on my iPhone or flick to the right and use Spotlight search to search the web. Plus in the time that it takes to type in google.com to use Instant, you could have searched with the built in search function.
Other than the fact that it's not as time saving as many might think, what a great feature it is! Demo below.
