WSJ Confirms Specs of iPad 2 with Sources

Wall Street Journal has a proven track record with information regarding heavily rumored Apple products. Some even speculate that Apple has controlled leaks that are sent right to WSJ. Well, they are back again with some news on the iPad 2 stating that Apple has begun production on the latest version of the iPad.

The new device will be thinner, lighter and will come with a faster processor, more memory and a more powerful graphics processor, said the people familiar with the matter. It will have a front-facing camera for the first time for features like video-conferencing, but the resolution of the new iPad's display will be similar to the first iPad, they said.

I find it odd that they used the word "similar" to describe the new iPad's display rather than saying it was the same as the first-generation model. The current model has a 1024x768 resolution, though many rumors have suggested the iPad 2 will get a "retina" boost to 2048x1536. WSJ also reports that the 3G models for the new iPad will be available on both AT&T and Verizon as expected.

If my predictions are correct, invitations for an iPad 2 and iOS 4.3 announcement should go out this week to be held around February 15th.
