Nook Color Turns Into Tablet with Latest Update

Barnes and Noble has announced an update to their popular Nook Color e-reader that brings their own Android app store onto the device. It's not your standard Android market: all apps on the store must be approved by Barnes and Noble, and for the most part they must be at least somewhat relevant to reading or consuming information. 125 apps made the cut for its debut today. Among those are the Pulse news reader, weather apps, and of course, where would all great intellects be without Angry Birds? New apps will continue to be added to the store in the future.

The price of the Nook Color remains at just $249 and although it's meant to be an e-reader or a "reader's tablet", it really could be a small substitute for shelling out at least twice as much money for a larger and more powerful tablet. Though Barnes and Noble plans on rolling this out via an OTA update beginning next week, you can get your hands on the app store right now at nookcolor.com/update.
